Private Equity (PE)
Term related to the type of capital used in PE funds, most of which are set up under private contractual agreements between investors and managers, not being offered openly on the market, only through private placement. Moreover, companies that typically receive this type of investment are not at the level where they can have access to the public financial market, i.e. they are not open capital companies, meaning their stockholder structure is usually closed.
Venture Capital (VC)
A way of financing early stages of new ventures, new products and/or services, in any sector. Venture Capital is an attractive choice for new companies with limited operational history which are too small to raise capital from public or private markets, and do not reach the point where they are able to guarantee a bank loan or a complete offer of debt. In return for the high risk investors take when investing in small and less mature companies, capitalists guarantee significant control over company decisions, along with a share of its ownership and consequently of its value.
